Scott Ciepley was union carpenter for over 40 years (Local 10). Scott was well known in the industry as he was a leader at Freeman for over 30 years as the general foreman and then Chicago City Manager for Sholink. Scott was known for his incredible dedication to his companies and co-workers. He was known for his extensive knowledge and mentored dozens of other workers throughout the years and helped them take their careers and lives to the next level.

Scott Ciepley passed on July 18th, 2025 to suicide. He was suffering from degenerative disc disease between his L4 and L5 vertebrae. His pain was so deep he could hardly walk, he could only stand for a minute at a time and it often kept him awake at night. He had a surgery scheduled for a spinal fusion, but the pain was so bad he couldn’t make it another day. Pain killers were not helping and he was becoming worse by the day with the lack of sleep.

Scott retired at 60 with big dreams of enjoying more time with friends and family.  Since he worked so much, he had a very strong pension and that made him the main bread winner in his family, even during retirement. He supported his partner, Jennifer Daley and his son Ryan Ciepley. He passed after collecting 66 months of his pension. His pension was only guaranteed for 60 months to his beneficiary (Ryan Ciepley), which means Ryan and Jennifer receive no financial support from his pension even though he worked for 40+ years to build it up. Ryan and Jennifer have paid for all of the services and estate bills out of their own pockets.
