Hazel is an adventurous and kind 10 year old girl. Hazel is the daughter of a long-time Phoenix traveling lead (formerly Las Vegas) Nth Degree employee Roy Scott. Roy Scott is the son of a retired (2021) Las Vegas Lead Robert Scott who worked for Nth Degree for 22 years.

Hazel became ill with what we thought was just something viral. On Saturday, August 30th, things took a serious turn, and she went into Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). She was flown by helicopter to the PICU at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where she was officially diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and in diabetic sepsis. Thankfully, Hazel has been recovering, but this is a lifelong condition that is manageable.

As a family, we are navigating not only the emotional toll but also the practical struggles. We are driving an hour each way to the hospital, balancing care for Hazel and our son, Damian, at home, and facing the reality of missed work. While my wifes employer was kind enough to grant her two weeks off or more if needed, losing that income has already put a strain on us Type 1 Diabetes is a life long condition that we will be managing with monthly prescriptions and lots of visits to an endocrinologist.
